LA Munny Show Pics

November 4, 2005

The Munny Show last night was excellent.  Open bar, great people, Munny building area (with paint, hair, feather, yarn, everything), and amazing pieces.  Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, and a couple of other artists showed up.  There’s a link below to Vinyl Pulse’s photos from last night. Check them out.

Kenneth Lavallee

November 2, 2005

I’ve watched his work evolve for a while now, his style has become so solid. He’s illustrations and mixed media pieces are incredible. Below are samples of his work, more of which can be found on his knnth.com.

“Aesthetically, this photo-collection of classic Japanese toy robots is a double-fisted rocket-punch knock-out. Photographer Tim Brisko furnishes sublime shots of some of the most revered pieces from the Golden Age of Japanese toys, accompanied by the scholarly illuminations of ‘bot lovers Matt Alt and Robert Duban, with additional input from industry legend Saburo Ishizuki. It’s amazing how far this book’s appeal extends beyond the usual target-audience for all things robotic, plastic, die-cast, and Japanese; Brisko’s moody photography and the editorial contextualization of the subject matter lift these pieces out of the toybox and into the realm of serious art and design, where they belong.”

Brendan Monroe

October 28, 2005

Below is a photo of the upcoming Sour’s collection by Brendan Monroe.  And below the quote are a few more similar sculptures which can be found on his site.

“Anthropomorphic creatures rule Monroe’s work. With an affinity for the flora and close observation of human activity Monroe helps reconnect the fading dots between us and our primal selves.  The elements play a feature role in scenes that aren’t referential to a particular era instead fusing a timeless atmospheric quality with a contemporary receptivity.  A muted earthy palette unifies the show visually which extends beyond the paintings and sculptures to the walls of the gallery.” – Mike Kelly, Junc Gallery

Not only is Jeremy Fish’s work stunning, but if here were to start a vinyl toy line, there wouldn’t be a penny in my checking account. Or would there be?
